February 12 vs Char-Lan Rebels C1

With the 2011-12 playoffs approaching, the NGS novice C1 Braves are on a roll.

The Braves ran their undefeated streak to six games on Sunday afternoon in Maxville with a 2-2 draw against the Char-Lan C1 Rebels. Dustin Villeneuve opened the scoring for NGS with a first-period goal from Matthew Lalonde and Nevynn Witteveen. Villeneuve made a 2-0 lead in the second with assists from Kody Giroux (who was playing a rare game out of net) and Witteveen. Savahna Vachon made her debut in between the pipes and played a strong game. Char-Lan got goals from Liam Spence and Nolan Levac. Lalonde was named hustler of the game for NGS.

February 11 vs NGS Braves C2

Another tight match resulted in the latest battle between NGS novice C teams on Saturday night in Finch. Goaltenders  Kody Giroux (C1) and Abby Hardy (C2) were the stars of the show once again making several big saves in a very entertaining game. Dustin Villeneuve was the game’s lone goal-scorer giving the C1 squad a 1-0 victory and was named the C1 Braves’ hustler of the game.

February 11 vs South Stormont Selects C1

It was a game of firsts for the Braves Saturday morning in Long Sault. Both James Cooper (from Tyler Babcock and Savahna Vachon) and Corinne Anderson (from Nevynn Witteveen and Matthew Lalonde) knotched their first goals of the season in a 5-1 victory. Lalonde also picked up two goals in the win while Dustin Villeneuve (assisted by Anderson) rounded out the scoring for NGS, and also added an assist. Kody Giroux earned the victory in goal while Anderson was named hustler of the game.

February 9  vs  South Stormont Selects C2

The Braves held on to earn a point with a 2-2 draw against the South Stormont Selects C2 team on February 9. Dustin Villeneuve gave the Braves an early 2-0 lead with a pair of first period goals. The Selects rebounded with tallies from Kaeten Racine and Griffin Charlebois. Breigh Jackson was dominant on the blueline and earned hustler of the game honours.

February 4 vs South Stormont Selects C2

NGS goaltender Kody Giroux put together another tremendous game to help earn a point against the Selects in a scoreless tie. Giroux’s effort was matched by South Stormont’s goaltender Jayden Paul Bowen who also registered a shutout. James Cooper was NGS' hustler of the game.

January 28 vs Char-Lan Rebels C2

Braves forward Savahna Vachon broke out with her first two goals of the season and added an assist to lead NGS to a 5-1 win over the host Rebels on January 28. Matthew Lalonde added a highlight-reel talley and Dustin Villeneuve rounded out the scoring for NGS with a pair of goals. James Cooper picked up the victory in between the pipes. Thomas Poirier scored for Char-Lan.

January 21 vs South Stormont Selects C1

NGS fell short in a nail-biter losing by a 4-3 score to the Selects on January 21. Down 2-0, the Braves rallied to tie the game at 2-2 in the second period. Breigh Jackson and Dustin Villeneuve scored in the middle frame. Villeneuve potted his second of the game in the third period but the Selects tallied late for a one-goal win. Ewan Wilson had three goals for South Stormont while Joel Provost had a single.

January 10 vs South Stormont Selects C1

Goaltender Kody Giroux led the charge for the Braves on January 10 posting a shutout in a 1-0 victory. Breigh Jackson was the game’s long goal-scorer hitting the back of the net late in the first period.

December 18 vs South Stormont Selects C2

A day after a big win in Williamstown, the Braves travelled to Long Sault for a match against the C2 South Stormont Selects. Unlike Saturday, this was a defensive battle between the two squads. After a scoreless first period, the Selects opened the scoring early into the middle frame with a goal from Griffin Charlebois. The Braves came right back though as Dustin Villeneuve knotted the score at 1-1 just a minute and 9 seconds later. James Cooper registered an assist on the goal. The Selects went up 2-1 with 3:50 remaining in the game after Kody Giroux was finally beaten after a flurry of saves. NGS pulled Giroux out of the net for an extra-attacker in the final minute but couldn’t find the equalizer. Playing a steady and strong defensive game in his own end of the ice all weekend, defenceman Connor Alguire was recognized as the Braves’ hardest working player against the Selects.

December 17 vs Char-Lan Rebels C1

Dustin Villeneuve had a game to remember Saturday morning in Williamstown. Villeneuve matched his jersey number (which is five) in goals and added an assist during a 6-0 victory for the NGS novice C1 Braves over the Char-Lan C1 Rebels. Tyler Babcock added the sixth goal for NGS. Kody Giroux was flawless in net recording the shutout. Villeneuve was named the Braves’ hardest worker of the game.

December 11 vs NGS Braves C2

On December 11 the C1 Braves hosted the C2 NGS Braves in Maxville. The first two games, both nail-biters, were split between the teams and it was the C2 Braves who took home the two points in the latest match. Alex Leroux sealed the win for his team with an empty-netter with 24.9 seconds remaining. The goal came 9 seconds after Breigh Jackson scored for the C1 Braves to cut the C2 Braves’ lead to 2-1. Leroux ended up with the game-winner with his first of the game early in the third period. Laura Grady opened the scoring for the winners while Gracie Leroux and Johnny McAdams had assists. Abby Hardy earned the victory in between the pipes. Nevynn Witteveen was named the C1 Braves’ hustler of the game.

December 11 vs Alexandria Glens C2

On December 11, the Braves started off the day with a road game against a strong Alexandria C2 squad. Alexandria held a 3-1 lead after the first period en route to a 6-3 win. Tyler Babcock, Dustin Villeneuve and Breigh Jackson scored for NGS with Chloe Anderson adding an assist. Babcock was named the Braves’ hustler of the game. Bradley Massia had four goals for Alexandria with Myriam Boisvenue and Patrick Rochon each scoring once.

December 10 vs Char-Lan Rebels C2

The NGS novice C1 Braves erased a 1-0 first-period deficit with a pair of goals in both the second and third periods to win 4-1 over the Char-Lan C2 Rebels on Saturday morning in Maxville. Dustin Villeneuve scored twice and added an assist for the Braves. Tyler Babcock added a goal and an assist and Nevynn Witteveen rounded out the scoring for NGS. Matthew Lalonde and Connor Alguire, who was named NGS’s hustler of the game, each had one assist. Kody Giroux earned the win in goal. Owen Robertson scored the lone Char-Lan goal.

December 3 vs South Stormont Selects C1 

The NGS novice C1 Braves employed several of the schemes the coaching staff has been teaching them in practice to perfection during a 6-2 victory over the South Stormont C1 Selects on Saturday morning in Maxville. Supported by a strong work ethic, and unselfish teamwork, the Braves took control early leading 4-0 after the first period. Dustin Villeneuve, with a pair of goals, Nevynn Witteveen and Tyler Babcock scored in the opening period for NGS. Witteveen took over the second period knotching another two goals to complete her hatrick and increasing the lead for the home side to 6-0. The Selects didn’t give up, however, and potted their two goals in the third period, both from Ewan Wilson. Kody Giroux was outstanding in goal for NGS and if not for his heroics early in the game, the final score may have been much closer. Giroux was named the Braves’ Hardest Worker of the game. Breigh Jackson was in a giving mood with three assists while Witteveen, Villeneuve and Chloe Anderson all had one helper.

Home tournament in Finch on November 19

For the second straight weekend, the novice C1 and C2 Braves went head to head at Finch Arena, this time in the B final at their home tournament on Saturday. Sharing the duties as hosts, it was a fitting end to a great tournament.

Coming off a 4-2 loss last week to the C1 Braves, the C2 squad rebounded with a 1-0 victory for the B championship on Saturday. Abby Hardy continued a remarkable season in goal picking up the shutout in the victory.

Lucas Martel was the game’s lone goal scorer hitting the back of the net in the second period.  Kody Giroux earned the C1 Braves’ Hardest Worker of the Game award after playing well in his first attempt at goalie. Corinne Anderson was voted as the C1 Braves’ Hustler of the Game by the C2 Braves coaching staff.

The C2 Braves’ roster includes: Laura Grady, Jessica Green, Alex Leroux, Grace Leroux, Johny McAdams, Jeremy Sabourin, Kiera Speck-Meek and Cole Watkins.

The day started off well for the C1 Braves as they rolled to an 11-2 win over Cumberland C1 in their first game. Dustin Villeneuve was on fire for the Braves as he scored four goals and added two assists. Breigh Jackson had three goals while Nevynn Witteveen scored two highlight-reel goals and added an assist. Matthew Lalonde and Chloe Anderson both scored their first goals of the season and each added an assist. Tyler Babcock earned the victory in goal. Corinne Anderson was named the Braves’ Hardest Worker of the Game. Witteveen was voted as NGS’ Hustler of the Game by the Cumberland coaching staff.

In Game 2 of the day, the Brockville squad broke up a 4-3 lead with five third period goals to defeat the NGS C1 squad 9-3. Brockville went on to become the eventual A champions of the tournament after a 2-0 win over North Dundas in the final. Villeneuve had another two points against Brockville with a goal and an assist while singles went to Jackson and Witteveen. Giroux picked up an assist. After back-to-back solid games in goal, Babcock was recognized by the NGS coaching staff as the Braves’ Hardest Worker of the Game. The Brockville coaches voted Giroux as the Braves’ Hustler of the Game.

The tournament also featured a skills competition which included a team fastest-skating relay race, accuracy shooting, breakaway competition and awards to best goalie.

Johny McAdams (breakaway) and Matthew Lalonde (accuracy) highlighted strong performances for the local squads finishing second in their respective events.

November 13 vs NGS Braves C2

Down 2-1 entering the third period, the NGS Novice C1 Braves rallied with a three-goal explosion to edge the NGS C2 Braves 4-2 Sunday night in Finch. Tyler Babcock got the ball rolling for the C1 Braves scoring a goal in the first period. The C2 Braves rallied with a first-period goal from Alex Leroux and a second-period tally from Cole Watkins. Babcock knotted the game at 2-2 to open up the third period before Breigh Jackson netted the eventual winner and Nevynn Witteveen added an insurance marker. Dustin Villeneuve had two assists for the C1 Braves with single assists going to Mathew Lalonde and Witteveen. Leroux and Kiera Speck-Meek had assists for the C2 Braves. James Cooper picked up the win in goal while Abby Hardy turned in a spectacular performance at the other end of the ice. Chloe Anderson was named the C1 Braves’ Hardest Worker of the Game.

November 12 vs Alexandria Glens C2

The Alexandria Novice C2 Glens visited the NGS C1 Braves in Maxville on Saturday morning and the visitors’ took advantage of an early lead in a 6-0 win. Myriam Boisvenue scored three times, including twice in a four-goal first period for Alexandria, while Patrick Rochon scored twice and Bradley Massia singled. Mathew Lalonde was the Braves’ Hardest Worker of the Game.

 November 5 vs Char-Lan Rebels C1

The NGS Novice C1 Braves captured their first victory of the 2011-12 season Saturday, November 5 in Maxville. Backed by the tremendous goaltending of Nevynn Witteveen, the Braves prevailed 4-1 over the Char-Lan C1 Rebels. Dustin Villeneuve paced the Braves’ offensive attack with two goals and a creative cross-crease assist on a Tyler Babcock goal. Matthew Lalonde rounded out the scoring for the winners. James Cooper was recognized as the Braves’ hardest worker of the game. Joshua Leduc scored the lone Char-Lan goal late in the game.

    October 29 vs Alexandria Glens C1

   On October 29, the Braves made their home debut in Maxville in game 2 of a back-to-back against the C1 Glens.  Led by the offence from their captain Connor MacDonald, who scored six goals, the Glens prevailed with a 11-0 victory. The Braves showed spurts of offensive creativity, but were turned away on each chance by the Alexandria goaltender. Connor Alguire was the Braves' Hardest Worker of the Game.

October 23 vs Alexandria Glens C1

On October 29, the Braves made their home debut in Maxville in game 2 of a back-to-back against the C1 Glens.  Led by the offence from their captain Connor MacDonald, who scored six goals, the Glens prevailed with a 11-0 victory. On October 23, the Braves travelled to Alexandria to face a strong C1 Glens team. Again, the visiting Braves were neck and neck with the home team early on but fell short in a 7-2 loss. Villeneuve scored both of NGS’ goals in the first period, which finished tied 2-2. Breigh Jackson assisted the second NGS goal. Alexandria scored three in the second period and two more in the third for the win. James Cooper turned in solid showings in net for both games in Alexandria and Long Sault. Kody Giroux was the Braves' Hardest Worker of the Game.

October 22 vs. South Stormont Selects C1

 The NGS Novice C1 Braves kept pace with the South Stormont C1 Selects for most of the game  in Long Sault on October 22 but couldn’t pull out the victory as the home team scored the last four goals in the third period to win 9-5. Dustin Villeneuve led NGS with three goals with singles going to Kody Giroux and Tyler Babcock. Breigh Jackson was the Braves' Hardest Worker of the Game.    

October 15 vs. Char-Lan Rebels C2

Opening the 2011-12 hockey season in Williamstown on October 15, the NGS Novice C1 Braves provided a thrilling game for the fans. Trailing host Char-Lan C2 Rebels 3-1 late in the game, the Braves pulled goaltender Matthew Lalonde, who played admirably while taking his turn at a team-shared goaltender rotation this year, for an extra-attacker with a little over two minutes remaining. Dustin Villeneuve raced onto the ice during the switch and after a breakaway feed from Nevynn O’Brien-Witteveen scored with 50 seconds remaining to cut the deficit in half. NGS continued to attack but were held off by the Char-Lan defence the rest of the way. Villeneuve also scored his first of the season earlier in the third period. Villeneuve was the Braves' Hardest Worker of the Game.
